Thirty Meter Telescope Construction

2015 December 16 FTR - HSA Photo by Jamm Aquino.
****POY 2015, I made this shot after establishing a relationship with my subjects atop Mauna Kea. One of the most vital aspects of being a photojournalist is the ability to earn your subjects' trust. With the gravity of the Thirty Meter Telescope situation, I knew that the story that should be told had to be one of emotion, power, and spirit. I feel this image has all of these elements.****

Protester Charles Dudoit, middle, is overcome with emotion in the roadway on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 on the slope of Mauna Kea on Hawaii Island. Construction on the Thirty Meter Telescope is set to resume June 24 after a nearly two-month hiatus during clashes with opponents of the project who view the mountain as a sacred place. (Jamm Aquino/The Honolulu Star-Advertiser).
